Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, pulls out of nuclear weapons summit,” Mail & Guardian (10/04/2010).
Whatever the real reason for his refusal to attend, we are told that one Israeli official said it was because Turkey, Egypt, and other Muslim countries intended to raise questions about Israel’s nuclear weapons.
Politicians and Christians alike, it seems, prefer to focus on the sins and weaknesses of others, rather than on their own. God forbid that anyone should raise questions about our values or lifestyle. We will only attend conferences (or listen to preaching?) where the sins of the world are on display, but our own can be safely ignored. And in South Africa today there is so much corruption and failure on display (and Julius Malema, of course) that we are able to criticise, condemn and tut, tut, to our heart’s content.
Did someone say something about a log of wood in the eye?
